Here is a guide on how to record a movie of Quake Live game play. It is easy and all you need is one free software plus Windows Movie Maker (or similar if on other operating systems).
First
- Download FRAPS here.
- Install and make settings as you wish. I added a folder to save movies in and made sure I would remember the video capture hot key (F9 by default).
Second
- Load and play the game (Quake Live).
- You can play as usual or be a spectator.
- Hit F9 or the assigned hot key to begin recording. I recorded 27 seconds as spectator.
- Hit F9 or the assigned hot key again to stop recording.
Third
- Exit game.
- Load the newly created movie into Windows Movie Maker, add text or whatever, save to computer. Make sure you compress it if you want to show it off. My 27 seconds clip was 330 MB at the beginning, after some compressing I made it into 10 MB = Much easier to share with others.

Below is my first recording of Quake Live game play, showing fixed and glowing enemy models as a result of this special Quake Live configuration file.
